Green smoothies may not look appetizing when you first encounter them, but they can be incredibly refreshing, and tasty.  But it's not about the taste.  Green smoothies are packed with vitamins and enzymes that are both energizing, as well as a boost to your immune system.

Think of all the rich nutrients in green leafy vegetables, like kale or collards.  Much of those nutrients, especially the enzymes, are depleted when you cook these vegetables, but they're not easy (or even enjoyable) to eat raw.  You could put a large leaf of kale in a smoothie, with berries or apples, along with some mango or pineapple juice, and you'd have a refreshing drink loaded with antioxidants, and fiber.  Imagine trying to eat that leaf of kale by itself - you would drop that good habit like a hot potato.

Green smoothies fight cancer much like a raw food diet does.  You are consuming living foods rich in nutrients and enzymes that support your immune system.

Green smoothies fight cancer much like a raw food diet does.  You are consuming living foods rich in nutrients and enzymes that support your immune system, with fiber that keeps your intestines clean and working efficiently.  When the system is clean, risk of colon cancer goes down.  With the antioxidants, you're fighting free radicals that lead to cancer.  The enzymes help fight cancer cells before they multiply.

If you like fruit smoothies already, try adding a few greens next time; you don't need a lot to get a boost in nutrition.

There are a lot of online green smoothie recipes.  Try out a few until you find what you like.  It's like having a mega-potent whole food vitamin pill.  You don't feel so guilty if your regular diet isn't as perfect as it should be when you know you've already given your body the nutrients it needs.
