- Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families is asking people to report to them if they find these chemicals in products where they shop.
The folks at Safer Chemicals Healthy Families have been urging retailers to stop selling products that contain the toxic chemicals methylene chloride and N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP). Methylene chloride and NMP have been shown to cause cancer, damage the nervous system and to fetal development, and can even be lethal.
Lowes hardware stores were the first to commit to removing products that contain these dangerous chemicals. Many other retailers since have committed to removing them, but the latest update is showing that there's still inventory left.
So, for now, read labels and avoid these chemicals. There are plenty of other products out there that will help you with any project without exposing yourself to toxic chemicals.
