The Power of Now is not specifically for cancer patients or survivors, but many people dealing with cancer have found it to be a powerful tool in dealing with the flood of emotions, and/or physical pain and stress that come with a cancer diagnosis.
The Power of Now has been a #1 New York Times best seller, and Oprah Winfrey says The Power of Now helped her get through the events of September 11, 2001, featuring it as one of her 'favorite things'.
A Cancer Diagnosis is a Flood of Thoughts and Emotions that Need to be Processed
This book helps with many of the things we are dealing with after a cancer diagnosis. Our mind is both exhausted and racing. We often don't even know what to think. We hold in our emotions just to get through the day. Sometimes we blame ourselves for our cancer. Or we are angry - this wasn't supposed to happen to us. We want to give up, or we want to fight fight fight. We all react to the diagnosis differently. And on top of that, most of us need to work and take care of our family. The Power of Now somehow has something for all of these responses.
Spiritual, Meditative, and Practical
While this book is listed as a spiritual book, it's remarkably practical. I wasn't looking for spiritual enlightenment, I just wanted to get through the day. This book was incredibly helpful in that respect.
The Power of Now is a book that has bits of wisdom for everyone, but you may not respond to all of it. Don't worry. Just reflect on the parts that speak to you. I've know people who have read the book at different times in their life, and found different parts stood out.
